When I was young I hated brushing my teeth, waking up earlier, and going to school. I hated spending my little energy I had in the morning doing things that felt useless. Overtime, I didn’t have my parents to nag me to do the tasks, which resulted in having to receive the consequences of my actions (or lack of actions).

20 years later, I regret not keeping the morning and nightly routine forced by my parents. I have bad teeth, recessed gums, weak muscles, and low motivation to get up in the morning. As someone who has ADHD, I am preconditioned to be non-focused. But my negative feelings towards routines, for so many years, resulted in not gaining the essential habits necessary for maintain a healthy body.

Last month, when I was worrying that I had multiple cavities and would need to get the majority of my teeth extract, caused me to floss my teeth daily. This action feels similar to curing cancer. The mental and physical challenges of repeatedly making my gums bleed allowed my gums to stabilize. This small internet habit that I developed though severe stress resulted in the development of a habit I refused to take on for 27 years.

Everyone is different, everyone has their perspectives on what they should and shouldn’t do. But I believe that everyone wants to a long and happy life. To sustain their health with doing very little work.

Anxiety for the Win

Solution, give yourself a panic attack on something you feel self concious about. Focus on building that to a level where you can feel you are satisfied with the state you are in. Repeat. This is how you can add a positive routine in your life.

Doing a positive activity regularly will push you in the right direction. You won’t be putting yourself in a perfect spot, but doing something right is better than doing nothing at all.
