Why I decided to start donating this year and how I picked my charities?
Why am I giving to charities for the first time this year?
This year I decided to donate to charities. I determine it was an important thing to do as someone who had income over the course of the year. I also recognize that I have had certain privileges that many other Canadians do not and did not have. And I took it upon myself as an effective altruist to make a positive change.
How did I decide on which charities to donate to?
I value analytics over emotions when making financial decisions. Therefore, I decided to pick my charities that I would donate to using analytics. With a bit of research, I found a website called https://www.charityintelligence.ca/.
I love this website! It provides a star rating, snapshot and detailed explanation of each charity that you select. The star rating and snapshot make it easy to evaluate the various Canadian charities and the detailed explanations give me confidence in the snapshots they provide. As a result, using my personal parameters and the guidance Charity Intelligence provided. I was able to choose the five charities that I will donate to.
